West Ham 1-1 Chelsea Empty West Ham 1-1 Chelsea

Post  Admin Mon Dec 21, 2009 8:49 am

90+3 There's the full-time whistle. West Ham deserved a least a point today for a battling effort. The talking point though will be the award of Chelsea's thrice-taken penalty. It's finished 1-1 and Chelsea are now four points clear of Manchester United at the top. West Ham remains second bottom but they are just two points from safety.

90+3 Terry tries to find Drogba in what looks to be the last attack. The Ivorian falls to control though and this game looks over.

90+2 A nervy moment for Green. Tomkins lets a long high ball bounce, almost letting in Sturridge. Green slips only to then gather. Gianfranco Zola breathes a sigh of relief on the sidelines.

90+1 Zhirkov is adjudged to have fouled Parker there. I'm no sure he got the ball. Anyway another chance to get the ball into the danger zone. They do, but it's headed away by Sturridge.

90 There will be three added minutes.

89 It's a fine delivery, Franco gets his head to the whipped ball but Cech makes a fine save. The flag was up for offside we later discover but it was still a good effort and even better stop.

88 Ivanovic is called up for a foul on Diamanti as he tries to get down the left. Free kick and a chance to get the ball into the box to test Cech here.

87 Chelsea win another corner even though it appears Drogba is fouling Tomkins as he puts it behind. From it, the ball is cleared only as far as Zhirkov on the edge of the box and he hits a left-foot drive over the top.

86 From the corner, Green is more commanding, claiming the ball with ease.

85 Lampard finds Zhirkov to his left and inside the box. The Russian hits a low shot which Green saves but is unable to hold. Tomkins helps him out by clearing for a corner. That was close to a winner for Chelsea.

84 Terry is the latest man in the book. He caught Faubert's hanging foot in the Hammers half. That's seven yellows Mike Dean has handed out today.

83 The game is becoming a bit stretched now a players tire. Can someone claim a winner on the break? It looks possible.

82 From the flag kick, Drogba makes one of his trademark defensive headers. However, West Ham are complaining that Carvalho was all over Franco. They have a point but refs rarely give penalties for such climbing and it's the same again this time.

81 On the break, Julien Faubert almost picks out Collison before the ball is cleared for a corner.

80 From the free kick, Lampard tries to pick out Terry for a volley but he miskicks and West Ham break.

79 Drogba does well to get away from Ilunga. The left-back brings him down as he goes past him and so it's a free kick near the byline just outside the penalty area on the right.

78 Terry makes a good block as Diamanti threatens. Moments later the ball is played in from the left, but Cech comes out to claim.

77 Can anyone win this game from here. Chelsea look the more likely at present but it's hardly a matter of when they score. West Ham have done well at the back today.

75 Joe Cole won't be on target today now. He's being replaced by Yuri Zhirkov, who is making his Premier League debut today.

74 Ballack and Franco tangle and the ref has words with both men.

73 Ivanovic centres from the right. It's low and arrives at Joe Cole's feet just inside the box. This time he's in space but drives his shot over the bar. He's struggling to hit the target today and that was probably his best chance.

72 Drogba wins the ball and finds Joe Cole but his effort is again off target and into the fans behind the goal.

71 Diamanti unleashes a powerful drive by Cech makes a regulation save.

70 Cole finds Lampard in a forward position but the former Hammer is crowded out bby home defenders on the edge of the box.

68 A shot from Joe Cole is wide of Green's right-hand post.

67 As things stand this would send Chelsea four points clear at the top. However, it would also be good news for Arsenal who, with a game in hand, could close it to three by winning that.

66 West Ham try to break but a misplaced pass sees the move break down.

65 Carvalho goes forward on a storming run. He crosses from the right-hand side but Upson is there to head away to safety,

64 After all that penalty drama it should be remembered it shouldn't have been awarded in the first place. I guess that's the sort of thing that happens to the struggling sides. Anyway, it's 1-1 now and West Ham would probably have taken that at the start of play.

63 Carvalho nods wide afer a free kick is knocked into the West Ham box.

61 GOAL - LAMPARD. Fair play to Lampard. At the third time of asking he scores for a third time. This one is to Green's left and keeper goes the wrong way. This time the goal stands and it's 1-1. Incredible scenes at Upton Park.

61 Incredible. Lampard scores again but again Mr Dean says retake! I've never seen this before! The replays shows it was West Ham players encroaching!

60 Lampard hits a perfect penalty into the corner but the ref makes him take it again!

59 There are plenty of protests - not surprisingly - and Upson ends up in the book.

58 Penalty to Chelsea! Lampard plays he ball in for Sturridge on the right of the penalty area. He is challenged by Upson who appears to win the ball. However, the linesman has flagged and Mr Dean has given the spot kick.

55 Noble does well to win the ball off Drogba - but he had to get that right. Had he mis-timed that he would have been off having already been booked.

54 Ballack goes down theatrically but fails to get a free kick - Noble did catch him though. Ivanovic is then pulled up for a foul so the end result is a West Ham free kick near halfway.

53 Apologies - it was Noble booked there.

52 The free kick comes to nothing and it remains 1-0 to the hosts.

51 Lampard to chopped down in midfield by Kovac and he's into the book. Noble is booked for complaining.

49 Drogba causes what seems to be a lost cause down the right and when he gets to the ball he hits a shot from a tight angle which loops over Green and drops just wide of the far post. It's just been compared to Marco van Basten's strike in the Euro 88 final - those of you who remember. I also remember Drogba scoring one a bit like that against Hull on the opening day of this season.

48 Cech comes out to dive on the ball as Ilunga tries to latch onto a pass down the left.

47 Sturridge gets an early shot away from distance but it's way, way off target, Not a great start for the former Manchester City striker.

Kick-off Chelsea get us back under way. West Ham are now attacking their fans in the Bobby Moore Stand.

A double change at the break from Chelsea. Daniel Sturridge and John Obi Mikel replace Kalou and Malouda.

West Ham are in from 9/1 at the start to 6/4 to win this match with Sky Bet. Chelsea are out from 4/11 to 13/8. The draw has changed little and can backed at 2/1 right now.

Chika Charles emails to say Carlo Ancelotti has got his tactics wrong. "It was a wrong decision to play without a holding midfielder from the start knowing how fast West Ham can be. Unless Anelka is injured, Kalou was a wrong decision also. This would have been a great opportunity for us to move six points clear but I dont see it happening here because we are not in control of the game." Shehzad Khan agrees: "I think Ancelotti needs to make some changes and try to not only change the match but the mindset of the players. I don't think they realise the value of six points going into January." Hammers fan William Rust is happy with his side. "I am really happy with how the mighty Hammers are playing this half - for once we are winning. I just hope they keep this up today and we can start turning our position in the table around." However, Henrik Bruun and Gary Tracey are among those who expect Chelsea to turn things around. Henrik says the first half was only a "minor setback". The second half is coming up soon!

45+4 There's the half-time whistle and West Ham lead by a goal to nil. Chelsea have struggled to break down a West ham defence which has been leaking goals all season. They did have one effort cleared off the line but then conceded that late penalty. West Ham will be desperate to hang onto this lead after the break.

45+3 Lampard's free kick hits the wall. Moments later Malouda nods a loose ball on to Kalou. He gets to it before Green who then bumps into the striker. The ball runs out for a goal kick but Chelsea had a claim for a penalty there.

45+3 Parker loves a sliding challenge but that one ends with him clattering into Ballack. He's rightly booked - for the seventh time this season. Free kick about 35 yards out.

45+2 This one is headed away and Chelsea can try to launch their fightback.

45+1 The corner is hit towards Upson at the far post. Mr Dean decides it flicks a Chelsea head so another flag kick results.

45 As West Ham win another corner, the fourth official signals three added minutes.

45 GOAL - DIAMANTI. The Italian sends Cech the wrong way from the spot. Cech goes right and the ball ends up in the other side. Another shock on the cards - it's 1-0 to West Ham.

44 Penalty to West Ham! Collison runs onto the ball inside the box and is brought down from behind by Ashley Cole.

43 Parker is unimpressed as he is called up for a foul on Joe Cole. It's taken quickly to Drogba but he can only hit the side netting from a tight angle on the left. A ball across goal would surely have been the wiser move.

41 The free kick is knocked into the box an Chelsea find themselves light at the far post. However, Terry manages to get to it and make the clearance.

40 There's a strong challenge between Lampard and Noble before Ballack is called up for a foul moments later. Tough tackling derby stuff!

39 It's another hard pass aimed at Drogba. He fails to control it, perhaps not surprisingly given its weight, and the attack ends.

38 Terry tries a shot from distance this time. It's low and well struck but Green is behind it and he maks the stop, albeit gathering the ball at the second attempt.

37 Joe Cole tries a shot from outside the box but it's well off target.

36 Diamanti waits too long and allows a Chelsea defender to get back and tackle him. The Italian stands and moans but he only himself to blame.

35 Joe Cole's turn to overhit a pass as Ashley Cole charges down the left.

34 Chelsea are not working Green too hard. Drogba is not having his best of games so far.

33 Ashley Coles cuts the ball back from the byline near the corner flag. It finds Lampard but his left-foot shot is well wide.

32 A deliberate handball from Franco as he rises, supposedly for a header, sees him yellow carded.

31 West Ham's best effort so far. Parker sends Herita Ilunga down the left in space. His ball back is disappointing but it still finds Collison whose shot is well saved from Cech. Franco tries to latch onto the rebound but he's flagged for offside.

30 Carvalho chops down Franco from behind and is rightly into the book. Ref Mike Dean points around the pitch to highlight it was far from his first foul.

29 Drogba woefully overhits a pass towards Kalou as Chelsea look to break. A waste of a good situation that with West Ham having thrown men forward.

28 Lampard overhits a pass as Ivanovic tries to get to the byline. The Serb ends up sliding across the surface which surrounds the pitch. Ouch!

28 Jack Collison tries to pick out Noble but the ball is cut out by Ivanovic.

27 Cech redeems himself with a decent punch from the following flag kick.

26 Some confusion between Terry and Cech sees the defender head away but it results in a West Ham corner moments later.

25 Malouda finds Joe Cole on the edge of the box but Radoslav Kovac is there to make the tackle.

24 Ivanovic was hurt going for that header but after some treatment he comes back on to continue.

23 The corner almost results in the opening goal. Ivanovic rises and heads gowalwards only for Parker to clear the ball off the line, first using his chest and then hacking the ball to safety. So close for Chelsea.

22 Drogba goes for goal but the ball strikes the wall and flicks away for a corner kick.

21 Drogba is chopped down by Parker around 25-30 yards from goal. Decent position for a free kick this.

19 A free kick is pumped forward by Noble. Upson nods down well to Alessandro Dimanti but the flag is up for offside. It's against Franco who also tried to win the initial header.

18 Indeed Gabbidon is coming off. On comes James Tomkins whose return to the bench did not last long.

17 Looks like trouble for Gabbidon. He needs treatment and the physio is stretching his leg.

16 Chelsa work the ball well down the right via Joe Cole and Ivanovic. He centres, a poor clearance from Scott Parker runs to Ballack, but his shot from around 25 yards is well over the bar.

15 Drogba flicks on for Kalou to chase. His pace gets him to the ball but Gabbidon does well to to come across and make a clearing tackle.

14 When the corner is delivered, Ivanovic rises and heads onto the roof of the net from 10 yards out.

13 Branislav Ivanovic sends Lampard down the line and he wins a corner off Gabbidon.

12 An awful ball in from Florent Malouda ends up in Green's hands. It came moments after Danny Gabbidon appeared to handle in the box but there were muted appeals only.

10 A low West Ham cross from the right is easily claimed by Petr Cech, another keeper who hasn't had the best of times of late.

9 Carvalho brings down Noble in the centre circle with a tasty challenge. An apology is forthcoming and there's no card.

8 Franco tries a shot from 25 yards but it is blocked by Michael Ballack.

7 Green is unconvincing from the resultant corner but when the ball runs through to Drogba on the far side he is unable to do much with it.

6 Joe Cole lays the ball off to Lampard who lets it runs across his body before unleashing a powerful shot which Green pushes away for a corner.

5 A good turn from Joe Cole gives Chelsea space but when he gets the ball back from Drogba, the England midfielder is crowded out on the right.

4 Guillermo Franco tries to latch onto a through ball in what is West Ham's first attack, but John Terry comes across to make a good tackle and stop the danger.

3 All Chelsea so far in terms of possession but nothing yet in the goalmouths.

2 Chelsea try to send Ashley Cole away down the left but the pass is overhit and runs out for a goal kick. An early touch for Robert Green after his midweek howler.

1 An early spell of possession from Chelsea in midfield.

Kick-off: West Ham get us under way with both clubs in their normal colours. The Hammers are kicking towards the Chesea fans in the first half.

Shaun Samra says the game has "goals written all over it" - let's hope so - while Dane Henrik Bruun says today's game is vial for the Blues. "Chelsea must put themselves in the driving seat. They got the reasons yesterday thanks to Fulham to make a perfect start to Xmas." Finally, Ross Connor is one fan cheering on the Hammers - he supports Arsenal! The players are in the tunnel. Almost ready to go now.

A Lee, emailing all the way from Mauritius, adds: "Without any doubt, Chelsea will extend their lead and go six points clear at the top." Anyone fancying West Ham today? I'd have thought they will make it tough in a highly-charged atmosphere at the Boelyn today.

Alan Risdon emails to cheer on Chelsea. He says: "I really hope Chelsea do the job today. I'm a Pompey fan and would love to come off the bottom of the leauge for Xmas, just in time to face the Hammers - Blues to win 2-1."

If you fancy a bet on today's get you can get a whopping 9/1 about a home win with Sky Bet. Chelsea are just 4/11 to claim the three points, while the draw is on offer at 10/3. Not surprisingly, Drogba is the favourite in the first goalscorer market at 3/1, although there could be some interest in former West Ham star Frank Lampard netting first. He's a 5/1 shot.

A reminder that you can email us your thoughts on the game to me: andy.schooler@bskyb.com. What do you think of those teams? And how do you feel the game will unfold? Can West Ham really throw a spanner in the works of the leaders? Kick-off is at 1600 GMT.

Team news: For West Ham, the injured Kieron Dyer is replaced by Mark Noble, while a big boost for them is the return to Matthew Upson. He comes in for James Tomkins who drops to the bench.

Team news: Didier Drogba is back for Chelsea today after missing the midweek win over Portsmouth. Nicolas Anelka drops out so Salomon Kalou keeps his place. Ricardo Carvalho replaces Alex in defence, while Joe Cole returns to the midfield in place of Deco.

West Ham team: Green, Faubert, Gabbidon, Upson, Ilunga, Noble, Kovac, Parker, Collison, Franco, Diamanti. Subs: Stech, Jimenez, Spector, Da Costa, Nouble, Tomkins, Stanislas.

Chelsea team: Cech, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Terry, Ashley Cole, Ballack, Lampard, Malouda, Joe Cole, Drogba, Kalou. Subs: Hilario, Mikel, Zhirkov, Paulo Ferreira, Sturridge, Alex, Belletti.
